What is Special Education?
Special education refers to a range of services that help students with disabilities learn. It’s not a “one size fits all” approach, as special education is tailored to meet the needs of individual students. Students who qualify for special education have an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Who is the Sangamon Area Special Education District (SASED)?
SASED is a special education cooperative that serves 13 school districts in Sangamon, Menard, Macoupin and Cass Counties. Districts included are: A-C Central, Athens, Auburn, Greenview, New Berlin Community Unit #16, North Mac, Pawnee, Pleasant Plains, PORTA, Riverton, Tri-City, Virginia, and Williamsville.
SASED is who provides special education services on behalf of Pawnee CUSD #11.
What to do if you think your child needs to be evaluated for special education services?
If you think your child needs to be evaluated for special education services, you may contact your school Principal, the district Director of Student Services, or the local Special Education administrator.
What information can a parent provide as part of the evaluation request?
Parents can provide information to the Principal, Director of Student Services, or the local Special Education Administrator that will help the team to make informed decisions regarding the need for special education services. Parents/guardians may provide any medical diagnosis, outside evaluations, or pertinent information to support the process.
